Mercy Medical Center announces dedication event and opening dates for new hospital
DURANGO, Colo. Mercy Medical Center today announced the dates of the dedication and official opening of the new Mercy Regional Medical Center. The new hospital, at 1010 Three Springs Blvd. in Durango, will replace the facility located at 375 E. Park Ave. in Durango.
The dedication of the 82-bed, $76 million facility will be celebrated on Saturday, June 17. The day’s events, which will begin at 10:00 a.m., will include a facility open house, brief speeches by dignitaries, a flag-raising ceremony, live music, and more. The public is encouraged to attend the celebration.
Ten days later, on June 27, the new hospital’s emergency department will officially open at 6:00 a.m. when the process of moving hospitalized patients from the old hospital to the new facility begins. Upon the departure of the last patient, the old hospital will officially close, ending 124 consecutive years of patient care at the 375. E. Park Ave. hospital site. The patient move process is expected to be complete by 12:00 p.m. that day.
We’re excited to continue Mercy’s legacy of care in a new building where we can provide a better healing environment and will have room to grow,” said Kirk Dignum, Mercy’s chief executive officer. “June 17 will be a fun day and we want to show off the new regional hospital to everyone we serve.”
Mercy Regional Medical Center was designed as a “healing environment” and features private patient rooms, a healing garden with a waterfall, a labyrinth, a history wall, and advanced medical technology including electronic medical records, all digital diagnostic imaging, and more.
The patient move process will be completed by hospital nurses with the assistance of paramedics, emergency medical technicians, and ambulances from Durango Fire and Rescue Authority, Los Pinos Fire Protection District, Upper Pine River Fire Protection District, Pagosa Springs, and Tri-State CareFlight. “We’ve been preparing for the patient move for more than 10 months,” said Nancy Hoyt, Mercy’s chief nursing officer. “We are very confident in the process we have planned.” Mercy Medical Center has hired Allied Hospital Services to relocate and install the hospital’s equipment, furniture, and other items.
Construction of Mercy Regional Medical Center is on schedule and nearing completion. The hospital is located in the Three Springs neighborhood of the Grandview area. Three Springs Blvd. intersects Hwy 160 between Farmington Hill (intersection of Highway 160 and Highway 550) and Elmore’s corner (intersection of Highway 160, County Road 234, and Highway 172).
