The Training Room joins Mercy Regional Medical Center
DURANGO, Colo. Mercy Regional Medical Center recently welcomed The Training Room, a Durango-based athletic training, sports performance, and rehabilitation provider, to its ranks.
Services provided to professional, recreational, and student athletes by The Training Room include personal training; sport-specific enhancement for individual athletes and groups; fitness testing; and athletic training injury care including injury prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation.
“For years Mercy has promoted wellness by encouraging participation in sports. The Training Room adds wellness services to the state-of-the-art diagnostics and medical care available to athletes at our new campus,” said Kirk Dignum, president and CEO of Mercy Regional Medical Center.
Aaron Urquidez, The Training Room’s personal trainer, performance enhancement specialist and cycling coach, and athletic trainers Jeff Stotts and Portia Kamps all made the move to Mercy.
“We live in a very active community where athletes of all levels want to perform well. We can help athletes reach their performance potentials while reducing risks of injury,” said hospital spokesman David Bruzzese. “In the unfortunate event an athlete does get hurt, we will also coordinate their care, following a sports medicine protocol.”
Many athletes turn to The Training Room for customized performance enhancement programs that begin with an assessment of their fitness level. Fitness testing services provided by The Training Room include testing of VO2 max (maximal oxygen consumption rate), lactate threshold, and resting metabolic rate, as well as kinetic chain assessments.
"With the addition of the The Training Room, the array of sports medicine-related services available at the Mercy Regional Medical Center campus is unparalleled,” said Bruzzese. Services for athletes including orthopedic care, spine care, physical therapy, cardiology, diagnostics, pulmonology, nutrition counseling, emergency care, sports massage, acupuncture, and more are provided by specialists at the Mercy campus.
The Training Room provides services at two new locations: 1 Mercado St., Suite 201, in the Integrated Physical Therapy gym located in suite 200 of the Mercy Medical Plaza at Mercy Regional Medical Center’s main campus; and at 589 County Road 252, in the Integrated Physical Therapy gym at Dalton Ranch.
