Mercy announces details about new medical clinic
DURANGO, Colo. Mercy Regional Medical Center today announced details about Health Services Cooperative (HSC), the medical clinic that will be operated by Mercy Regional Medical Center as a short-term, stopgap solution to the primary care shortage in La Plata County.
Health Services Cooperative will be located at 1800 East Third Avenue, suite 109, in Durango, formerly the site of Valley Wide Health Services. The clinic is tentatively scheduled to open on May 1, and tentative operating hours will be 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The clinic will be closed for lunch from 12:00 p.m. 1:00 p.m. daily.
Health Services Cooperative patients will be seen by appointment only- walk-in patients must make an appointment to be seen at a later date. Clinic managers expect the clinic to take calls for patient appointments starting in mid-April, once clerical staff is in place.
Health Services Cooperative will not be a full-service primary care clinic. Its services will be limited to the following: medication management; acute medical care for minor illnesses; preventative care checkups; and medical monitoring of chronic medical conditions.
Health Services Cooperative will not provide: comprehensive primary care services; medical procedures; immunizations; specialty care including procedures, emergency, pediatric, obstetric, or gynecological services; or comprehensive physicals, including sports physicals.
Health Service Cooperative will be staffed by at least two nurse practitioners, a triage nurse, a nurse-assistant, clerical staff, and a part-time physician.
A clinic hotline, (970) 764-1790, is now operational. Callers will hear a recorded message that is updated as new information about HSC becomes available.
Health Services Cooperative is being funded by La Plata County and the City of Durango. In addition to handling daily operations, Mercy Regional Medical Center is making significant in-kind donations to the clinic.
