Mercy offers “A Blue Christmas Service” Dec. 18

Durango, Colo. — The public is invited to Mercy Regional Medical Center’s sixth annual Blue Christmas Service at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, in the hospital’s chapel. Led by Mercy chaplains, the 30-minute service, will feature scripture readings, a litany of remembrance, music, prayer and a message of hope.

The Blue Christmas Service acknowledges that the holidays can be a burden for those who have experienced loss of any kind, including the death of a loved one, a broken relationship, unemployment, illness, loneliness, disappointment, or loss of a pet.

“The holidays can be a sad time yet the cultural expectation is to be happy and celebrate,” said to Diana McKenna, Mercy’s director of Mission and Spiritual Care. “But we are not alone. We can come together and take comfort knowing that God is with those who mourn and is a light in the darkness. We can remember that Christ was born into this world and experienced suffering as well,” she said.

Mercy Regional Medical Center is located at 1010 Three Springs Blvd. in Durango. For more information call the Mercy Department of Spiritual Care at 764-2340.
