Care for Mind, Body, and Spirit
We understand that undergoing medical procedures can be stressful. That’s why we focus not only on repairing the body, but also on promoting healing by caring for the whole person. Our popular Touch, Love, and Compassion (TLC) program uses holistic healing techniques such as aromatherapy, therapeutic massage, meditation, and music therapy to promote relaxation, healing and patient comfort. In short, we recognize the vulnerability caused by injury or illness and strive to provide to our patients with compassionate care.

Skilled Surgical Teams and Medical Professionals
Because more spine surgeries are performed at Mercy than at any other facility in the area, our teams of physicians, nurses, and surgery technicians are well experienced, knowledgeable, and professional. Spine surgeons who provide care at Mercy Medical Center include are fellowship trained. We also understand that skillful medical care goes beyond the operating room. That’s why we make an extra effort to communicate with our patients and their families and to educate them about their care. We know that communication isn’t just talking—it’s also listening to our patients’ concerns, answering their questions, and always treating them and their families with the dignity and respect they deserve.

Collaborative Care
Collaboration with other spine health care professionals is accomplished via Spineconnect.  This web-based tool allows spine physicians in Durango and around the world to share valuable information to positively improve patient care.

Focus on Quality Care
Clinical excellence and returning patients to functionality are primary goals of Mercy’s spine surgery program. Multidisciplinary teams of medical professionals are dedicated to ensuring patient safety and to maintaining the highest standards of clinical care. We constantly measure key quality indicators such as surgical site infection rates, complication rates, and patient outcomes to ensure we are delivering the best possible care. We pride ourselves in performing better than national averages in key clinical quality indicators.  Mercy Medical Center is accredited by the Joint Commission on Healthcare Accreditation (JCAHO), the nation’s predominant healthcare standards-setting organization and a symbol of quality.

The spine surgeons at Mercy participate as principal investigators in a number of clinical trials.  This allows patients access to the latest technology.
