The Orthopedic & Spine Center of Excellence at Mercy Regional Medical Center
Why is the Orthopedic & Spine Center of Excellence the Best Choice?
Mercy's spine surgery has been recognized with a Specialty Excellence Award for two Years in a Row (2013-2014), ranking it among the top 100 hospitals in the nation, according to Healthgrades, the leading online resource that helps consumers search, compare and connect with physicians and hospitals.
More spine surgeries are performed at Mercy than at any other facility in Southwest Colorado. From January 1, 2005 to September 30, 2011, over 900 elective spine surgeries were performed.
Innovative procedures include artificial disc replacement, less invasive lateral approach spinal fusion (X-LIF), and others. The hospital also has been selected to participate in several national clinical trials for next-generation devices.
The board-certified physicians who participate in the Center of Excellence are committed to research, education, and device innovation.

History and Overview
The Orthopedic & Spine Center of Excellence began in 2005 when surgeons and staff at Mercy Medical Center began working collaboratively to improve clinical quality, patient satisfaction, and outcomes. The team reviewed the entire surgery process from the perspective of the patient, not the caregivers, and redesigned it to better meet patients' needs. In 2006, Mercy Medical Center became Mercy Regional Medical Center when it relocated to a brand new facility. In the new hospital, with its state-of-the-art technology, private patient rooms, and healing environment, the Center of Excellence has flourished.
